Lyrics
Verse 1
I walked beside the mountain stream, And heard the waters singing; While birds that nestled in the trees Would soon their flight be winging. O’er forests draped in shades of green And fields of varied flowers, Whose fragrance seems to fill the air; Still fresh from morn ing showers.
Verse 2
I happ’ly hummed a merry tune. And breathed the air so clear. I felt a peace and shed my gloom, I knew that God was near. The beauty of God’s handiwork A wonder to behold; And then I thought of heav’nly things The place where streets are gold.
Verse 3
O, God, forgive my lack of faith, And give me strength I pray; That by my walking close to Thee, My steps can never stray; And then when shades of evening fall, And I shed this mortal shell; I shall not fear to quit this life I know that all is well.
